We welcomed Irvine, Uddingston and Paisley to EK for game 3 of the SRU Aspiring Womens League. After many wet days the pitches were heavy but it didnt stop the games going ahead. First up for East Kilbride was Uddingston. These two teams are very close is ability and skill level end to end rugby but in the end Uddingston scored the only try in the game to take the win. Next up was Paisley, with a full team of 10 players for the first time for this festival the players were getting used to playing alongside each other. Tackling was fierce and a break away try by Olivia Meiklejohn gave EK the first score of the day this was following by a debut try by Emma Gourlay who has came through the Queen Bee junior team to start for the Ladies team today..she didnt look out of place of the field. With our strong tackling still being successful and we only allowed Paisley to score 1 try this gave us our first win in this League. All the players were ecstatic along with our supporters. Last up was Irvine who are unbeaten in all the games in the league so far this was going to be a big test as they had shipped many tries past us in the past. Our defence was amazing tackling and tackling on our try line to try keep Irvine from scoring but 2 tries were scored but we never gave up. Time was ticking on in the 2nd half and ball was passed out to Christy and with Emma looping round to take the pass on the wing she ran into score.
What an amazing debut by Emma Gourlay, Christy Campbell, Chloe Stewart, Melanie Boyd.
With another few new players training with us we will hopefully see some more debuts taking to the field wearing the East Kilbride top
Thank you for all the support on the day the ladies really appreciated it
