EK's Under 18s had an excellent victory over their Allan Glens counterparts on Sunday. Allan Glens team had a lot of new boys in their team.
The EK side played well, but tired in the second half. They went through their phases well and were winning most rucks and malls until they tired and let AG's score 2 soft tries in the second half.
The EK scrum was strong, the line out however was patchy. The backs were full of running and made a number of line breaks, but just needed a bit more support to offload to.
The coach, David Cunningahm, said that the main positives were EK's tackling and commitment to contact.
This was a very encouraging start to the season.
A big thank you is due to referee Scott Aitken, who was due to play in the match himself but due to a shortage of alternative referees, Scott gallantly agreed to stand down from the team to ensure the game went ahead.
Coach Cunningham, never one to use two words when one will do, reported that Scott refereed very well. There is no truth in the rumour that he referees better than he plays (the boy gives up his game and the coach is then rude about him - shocking!).
Next week - the league fixtures have been revised again (for the fifth time already!) and EK now have a home game against Hamilton on Saturday 10 September at 3 pm.
Two weeks hence(17 Sept) - the U18s have an away game at Wigtownshire. Coach Cunningham is exploring a bus for this game (or should this be a coach?!!).
