EK Under 18s maintained their 100% home record with a dominant victory over Lanarkshire rivals Dalziel.
Dalziel arrived in good form having won four on the bounce. EK dominated possession and territory in the opening period but solid Dalziel defence and poor decision making in the Dalziel 22 metre area kept the game scoreless.
Dalziel had a massive pack and EK rather played to their strengths rather than playing to their quicker style. But the only try of the half came from centre Harry Taggart who crossed from short range, following good work from his midfield partner Kyle Dixon.
Half Time: EK 7 Dalziel 0
Encouraged to play at a quicker tempo, EK were more clinical in the second half. Not long after the restart, the ball was moved wide to powerful winger Sam Hume who barged his way to the line before scoring with a graceful swallow dive.
The try of the day came next with forwards and backs combining to put winger Ethan Aitken over the line (I hope you enjoyed this fulsome description, says the editor!!).
Scrum half Sam Connery stole under pressure Dalziel scrum ball to put his half back partner in under the posts. Despite ringing the changes EK continued to dominate, although Dalziel scored next with a controversial penalty try (sue them Murray!!).
EK however immediately responded with Ethan Aitken grabbing his second try after being driven over the line by the whole pack!!
It would be nit picking (but as a lawyer it is in my DNA!!) but it was slightly disappointing to lose the final score, but fair play to Dalziel who never gave up and were rewarded with the last try after a turnover .
Ethan Aitken kicked threee conversions which produced a final score of 31-12 for EK.
This was EK's game in hand, so they move top of the Conference with 3 games to play.
Next match: at home on 29 September to Livingston, kick off 2pm.
