EK 2s had a home match againbst Helensburgh 2s today in a match that counted as a double header making up for the previously postponed home and away matches between both sides.
Helensburgh started strongly but could not find the tryline, unlike EK who took an early lead through tries by Craig Ferguson (Fat but Slimmer) and Ross Stewart. This was followed up by another EK try through the centre.
The lead was increased, securing the try bonus point x 2, through veteran but ever energetic John Watson who scored under the posts. Flanker Calum Aitken got the next score which he duly converted to make the half time score 33-0.
The 2nd half was a more sluggish affair, with Craig (Fat) Ferguson getting the first score on the left. This led to the highlight of the day.
Flanker Aitken, who had been kicking well all day, had an off moment which saw his conversion attempt hit the right corner flag! This confirmed his reputation as a "wide boy" and greatly cheered the crowd. Score: 38-0.
A "Celtic style" huddle by the Helensburgh forwards stirred them to score the next try. EK scored next with stand off Scott Johnston surprising everyone, possibly including himself, with a superb conversion from the touchline.
Motivated by a short rest, EK got their final unconverted try through Fat Fergie. But the visitors had the last word, with a converted try under the posts.
This was a good display by EK, Man of the Match: Andy Kampman for his all action display, including numerous superb tackles.
