The 2nds had a narrow defeat at Stewartry on Saturday, going down 22-18.
EK had only 15 players and had to improvise by playing manager Dean Marriott(about 5 foot 5 inches) and last week's backs hat trick hero Alex Irvine in the 2nd row engine room. While david Rosie played with a bad shoulder, which sadly he further aggravated and may miss next week's match.
Stewartry opened the scoring with a converted try after 6 minutes. 7-0.
EK hit back through Bruce Beggans after 12 minutes,to tie the scores, Bert Blackwood converting. 7-7. Bert also got a penalty, so EK turned round at halftime in the lead, 10-7.
At half time, I changed sides while watching the 1sts, so was unable to monitor what was happening with the 2nds. I think Stewartry took the lead with EK then responding towards the end but losing 18-22, with a try by someone and a further penalty kick by Bert. If someone cares to let me know, I will update the report.
One other point I can confirm is that Euan (Pep) Perry played for the full 80 minutes. He told me this himself, so it must be true. Well done Pep!
EK did eventually find one replacement, Jason Currie came charging to the rescue. However, he regretted this as he hurt his hand.
Next week: the 2nds may have a blank weekend as their scheduled fixture, against Annan at home was rearranged and played three weeks ago.
Photos to follow, when Mrs Stewart sends me some!
