While the 1sts suffered disappointment at Irvine, the 2nds had a massive win at home at Torrance House Arena against CQP's 3Bs. They scored 12 tries.
Perhaps they were inspired by the new playing kit, which arrived during the week. The shirt sponsors' City Park Technologies managing director Keith Inch handed over the shirts before the match, as pictured.
There were 2 hat tricks: youngster Alex Irvine and oldster Andy (Duk) MacDonald, Bruce Beggans got 2; and the following each got one try: Craig (Fat)Ferguson, Calum (Bert) Blackwood, John Watson and Alasdair (Mickey) McNiven.
Conversions were spread amongst Bert(4); Duk and John Watson 1 each.
Some media outlets reported that the opposition made Ian Lonsdale look young. John Watson must have felt invigorated.
Pep lasted longer than normal - a whole 10 minutes, before he decided to protect his body. Young Calum Hastie had another strong match, after his recent impressive cameo for the 1st XV; Duk MacDonald reputedly scored a brilliant try up the blind side - how slow must the opposition have been, one spectator was prompted to wonder.
All the youngsters played well while middle aged 2nd XV manager - Dean Marriott - was accorded the ultimate compliment by EK's doyen of referee supervisors (Ian Lonsdale) by being described as "okay" and "no worse than any of the other blind referees we have had"! High praise indeed. Keep at it Dean - you could made the RWC by the time you are 70.
