EK 2s continued their excellent vein of form, having surged to the top of the league table last week after their victory at Hillhead. They finished the match at Hillhead with 12 men and for much of this week it looked as if they might start against Whitecraigs with 12 men, given the absence of various bodies.
The 1st XV pinched at least three bodies and lots of others seemed to prefer Christmas shopping to playing. Bruce Beggans, manager extraordinaire, waived his magic wand and somehow found sufficient bodies to start the game (I believe). No one ever gives me any details so I need to make it up.
It was particularly worrying when the Player Registration Manager (me) was asked to register a player on Saturday morning who it appeared to have a date of birth of 15 April 16. He (I) was in a bit of a quandry - I did not know if the player was 100 years old or five days short of being eight months old. Eventually, it was clarified that said individual was born in 1996 so welcome Andrew Proctor!
EK scored four tries through Craig Ferguson (Winger), Stewart (can I pay my membership?) Kampman and Andrew Graham. And Mr Consistency, Patrick (Kicker) Quigg kicked all four conversions.
This is an excellent result. EK stay on top of the league. They have one more match before the festive break, away next week to Annan (we think), a last minute re-arrangement of a series of 2nd XV fixtures which should allow the 2s to join the 1s on the bus to Annan. This may present EK travelling supporters with a dilemma - which team would they prefer to watch!? Only joking - it has to be the 1s!
