Not having played for three weeks, it was no great surprise that the 2nds were a bit rusty.
It was also a bit of a scrappy match as Annan only had 12 players, which seemed to impact on EK's focus.
That said, EK scored three tries in the first twenty minutes. But they then switched off, and a combination of poor discipline and bad tackling led to firstly an Annan penalty and then a soft try.
A series of penalties at the breakdown (culprit apparently Alex Irvine) gave Annan territory which they used to then rumble over from a line out catch and drive.
EK recovered in the second half and played much better. With greater intensity, they could have scored at will but somehow managed to butcher a number of overlaps. But a slippery ball attributed to handling errors by both sides.
EK collected eight tries and five conversions overall.
Tries: Gregor Hagerty 2, Thomas Hughes 2, Sam ? 2, David Rosie, Ross Campbell.
Conversions: J MacKinnon four from six attempts and Patrick Quigg one from two attempts
Man of Match Andy (Duk) MacDonald for structuring a chaotic game at times.
Special mention: Ross (Beans) Hynde turned up to play without any socks or shorts. This rather summed up the focus of EK, at least in the first half.
Overall - a good win, with some nice rugby played and much rust removed after the break.
Next week: the 2s are away to Clydebank, with a 2pm kick off.
