EK 2s notched another great win against Dalziel 3s to continue their unbeaten run. As the scoreline suggests, it was pretty much one way traffic, 30-0 at half time.
Try scorers were: Craig (the Big Deal) Ferguson 2, Richie Murray 2, David Rosie 2, David Bell and Alistair Mackinnon. Patrick Quigg added six out of six conversions, with Richie Murray taking over, when Quigg went off to celebrate with his family, and kicking one of of two conversions. [N.B. - all the timings for scores are made up as no one provided any timing details).
It was reported to me later that Chris Quinn really should have been awarded a try, following a clever kick by him, but the referee was unsighted or, possibly, just could not believe that Quinny followed up his kick so quickly.
It was also reported that Craig (the Big Deal) Ferguson was not really the Big Deal as he was very reluctant to pass to the ball to his team mates. The 2s don't need glory hunters.
News of Patrick Quigg's skill with the boot last week had travelled far and wide, with admiring supporters flocking to the Torrance House Arena to witness his skills. People travelled from Greenhills, St Leonards, East Mains and Calderwood to view first hand his footwork, and well rewarded they were. If every 2s player could encourage their dad, sister, brother and fiancee to attend each match in future, the 2s would be playing in front of at least 60 people every week.
Despite an intensive pre-season training programme in America, sponsored by Gas Services Direct, EK's Man of the Match, Gregor Hagerty, just could not get on the scoreboard. But his team captain did say that Gregor was very unselfish and happily shared the ball with all his team mates who did the scoring. Mr Big Deal - please take note!!
This win continues the 2s unbeaten start to the season, and sees them joint top of the league table with the maximum 15 points from three matches. Annan 2s also have 15 points but have played four matches, winning three of them.
Next week: the 2s are away to Ardrossan Academicals, who currently lie bottom of the table, with no points from three matches. Kick off 3pm, all friends, relatives and supporters welcome!
