EK 2s continued their impressive start to the season at Allan Glens on 17 September. Seemingly gone are the days of struggling to find 15 players - we had 19, despite quite a few call ups to the 1st XV. What is going on? And the 2s are still undefeated. Brilliant.
Anyway, with such strength in depth, EK turned in a great performance to win overwhelmingly 69-7. Callum Aitken, Chris Quinn, Alex Irvine and Ian Kerr all scored twice with James McLaren adding a ninth. Patrick Quigg contributed 22 points with some outstanding goal-kicking.
My sources (very reliable) confirmed that Patrick Quigg is a dark horse. Having told the Club Secretary many, many times that he was an ace kicker, Patrick's kicking was finally unleashed on Allan Glens.
And it was well worth the wait - his 22 point haul consisted of 8 conversions (he had the temerity to miss one!) and 2 penalties. Fantastic. Well done everyone in the 2s and especially Patrick.
Man of the Match - with no information about the contribution of the try scorers, there can be only one choice, the shy, unassuming [he told me this himself yesterday] Patrick Quigg.
Next week - the 2s have a home match (as do the 1s) against local rivals Dalziel 3s. Let's hope they can continue their excellent form and win again. All support welcome. There may even be some proper photographs of this match.
