EK put in a better forward performance in the 2nd half, mounting some pressure and the final score was 34-5. The EK try hero was Steve Lannon, who is a forward but found himself playing in the centre. Let's hope he does not suffer the fate of last week's try hero.
The 2nds are still struggling to field a consistent side every week, let alone a team with people playing in their “normal” positions. So once again, thanks to those who agreedto play out of position.
The game was almost in danger due to the absence of a referee. Fortunately GHK had one available and he had no influence on the final score. Indeed, the penalty count was in EK’s favour, 7-5.
Gordon Blackwood tweaked his back in the warm up and lasted only 10 minutes in to the match (no comments on this!) while his replacement, Chris O’Neil also managed to get himself injured in the first half. Let’s hope Chris has recovered as he has a busy few days of rugby activity ahead.
Team: Daniel McQueen; Chris Quinn; CJ Wood; Michael Reekie; Glen Neilson; Gordon Blackwood; John Watson; Steven Millar; Scott Aitken; Scott Johnson; David Cowie; Stevie McLaughlin; Stevie Lannon; Alex Irvine; Bruce Beggans. Replacements: Chris O’Neill; Andy Kampman.
Next week, the 2nds are away to Glasgow Accies. Let’s hope everyone agrees to travel – it’s only 30 minutes........!
