After the disappointment of a loss in their first league match, the second XV got their season under way with a hard fought game against Irvine.
The scoring was dominated by the Blackwood brothers, Bert (Calum) and Alasdair. Both played out of position (a cynic might say this about their whole rugby careers) but played well.
The only try of the game came from Alasdair Blackwood, in the second half. One spectator described the try as a glide through a gap (note to editor : check the Trades Description Act). Anther said he watched it in super slo mo live..... Alasdair's baby brother got the extra points as well as kicking 3 penalty goals.
The game was another disjointed affair. Only three of the EK forwards attended midweek training (possibly only because they did not get home at the weekend) so the pack spent most of the match introducing themselves to one another. Manager Reekie said that they could do so much better, if they only practised and came training. They do say that dreams cost nothing so enjoy your slumbers, Mr Reekie.
In a match with no cohesion, there were no stars on the EK side (however much the Blackwoods try to persuade anyone otherwise). Apparently the forwards had no idea how to feed the ball to their backs.
But overall, it was a well deserved victory and it was good to see 2nds team enjoying their post match beers as a team. Well done!
