Sadly, EK's 2nd XV's first league game following their promotion to West Reserve League Division 1 ended in defeat.
It was worrying that their support said EK lost due to a lack of leadership, and an inability to take their chances; all the more frustrating when Lenzie were reputed not to be very good (despite emerging as the victors!).
EK managed to field a 2nd XV, a feat that earlier in the pre-season seemed beyond them. Many thanks to all the players who emerged from the woodwork. But we need you to look behind you in case there are others who may yet emerge! Fitness levels for some are low and so we need a good deal of cover.
There was apparently very little of note in the game, apart from a second row playing in the centre. A mix of experience and experience, with a tiny dash of youth, meant that EK were not quite sharp enough to take the multiple chances that came their way. At least 3 or 4 try chances were squandered. EK recording only two penalties.
EK's best players were (in order) Martin Andrew (welcome back!); David Cowie (Lazurus - so much for his 4 week injury lay off) and that well known male model, Grubby Blackwood.
Gordon Blackwood apparently came off the bench (a sigh of relief from the bench) but the walk on to the pitch is rumoured to have exhausted him. A hard week's training may turn this in to a stride for next week. Smile .....they said there was nothing else of note!
We need everyone to turn up for training this week.
Next week: EK 2nd XV are at home to new town rivals Irvine, kick off 3 pm. Two home matches in one day (the 1st XV are also home) - the Sports Club needs the money!
