It was a family affair on Saturday when EK 2s beat Cumnock. Two father & son combos and two brothers helped make up the EK team. Read more below.

On a day when most of the rugby focus in Scotland was on Murrayfield, EK 2s got a rare run out at home against Cumnock 2s. The key fact is EK won a competitive match that was harder than the score of 31-10 might suggest.

EK has a good tradition of fielding teams of brothers, cousins and aunties but Saturday's selection was special - probably even a club record. The line up in the backs was No 9 Aidan Stott; No 10 was his old dad, Fraser Stott, No 12 the venerable Peter Hagerty and at No 13 outside centre, was Peter's son, Gregor. So son, father, son, father. Cat Stevens was reputedly very upset they got his song title incorrect.

In addition, we had the Rosie brothers, Paul and David Junior, putting the fear of death in to anyone who came near them, including their own teammates. Paul was playing his first game of rugby for some 6 months - he celebrated by purchasing a new pair of boots for the occasion. Size 15!! There is plenty of truth in the rumour that his day job is Coco the Clown.

It was unfortunate that David Rosie Senior was unable to find enough socks to fill up Paul's old boots so that he could have taken the field with his boys.

You are never too old to play for EK - the age range of Staurday's selection ranged from 17.75 years (Gregor Hagerty in hs nappies) to John (Julian Bonnaire) Watson at 54 years young (we await confirmation from the SRU whether he had his incontinence pads on).

As we go to press, theer are no details of how the match went. President Peter Hagerty apparently has sore ribs after the match, but we are not sure if this is due to excessive laughing at the creakiness of some of his teammates. But there was sufficient experience to guide the team to victory. It may have proved too difficult for Cumnock to run round all the old EK guys huddled in the middle of the pitch trying to have a rest.

A picture of the winning team is attached. Apparently the subs bench (we had subs?!!! - a miracle) were too shy to join the photo. The shy and retiring Gump was reputedly one of them.

Next week - the 2s have another match away to Lenzie on Sat 13 February, kick off likely to be early as Wales v Scotland on TV at 5pm. Anyone interested in a match is very welcome.
