With 4 tries in each half Strathendrick took full points from this game. East Kilbride (EK), on the other hand, came away with nothing to show for their efforts. EK started brightly from the kick off and an early attack on the visitors' line was thwarted as their opponents' defence was stout. Ball carriers such as Gary (Gump) Thornton and Ben Walters who often make progress with their strong running found themselves being stopped in their tracks and even knocked back. When the ball was turned over Strathendrick took the game to EK and opened the scoring by converting a penalty. This was the only penalty that they decided to kick, but throughout the game they we awarded many as EK's indiscipline was to cost them dear. EK's set scrummage was strong and won two penalties early in the game as the visiting pack was driven off the ball on their own put-in. S et piece strength, however, was not enough to keep this Strathendrick side at bay and with 15 minutes on the clock they scored the first of two quickfire tries. A further two tries before the half cam to a conclusion left the Torrance House team with a mountain to climb.

EK did not climb the mountain and it was Strathendrick that kept the initiative for the remainder of the game as they ran in a further four tries. EK pressed hard for a consolation score but it was not to be as, as had been the case far too often during this match, indiscipline led to penalties against them and Strathendrick profited from the possession regained as a result.

This was the kind of game that players and coaches should put behind them. For EK, when things went wrong the visitors profited. For example, late in the second half, Lucas Aitken put a telling kick into the Strathendrick 22. Had the ball kicked right there would have been an attacking line-out for EK. But it kicked left into the hands of a Strathendrick back who launched an attack giving them the initiative. Strathendrick, on the other hand, had some very effective runners who made incursions into EK territory, retained possession well and gave a sparkling display of handling that would grace the game at higher levels. For EK the principal positive was the set piece as both scrum and line-out were secure with the scrum in particular giving a not unbiased EK support something to cheer. EK players of the match? In a game in which no individual shone this honour goes to the eight forwards that took to the field at the beginning of the game and those who joined the back from the replacement bench during it.
