Tales & Photos from 7 March Sponsors & Reunion Lunch

See photos from our Sponsors & Reunion Lunch on 7 March . Thanks to all for their support over the season and for attending the lunch

Saturday 7 March saw East Kilbride host another of its successful pre-match lunches, this time for sponsors and past players.

The date was originally intended as EK’s last home league match of the season but the recent bad weather means that we still have one home match left – next week, 14 March against Perthshire, 3pm kick off.

Thanks to our sponsors

President Peter Ferrie took the opportunity to thank all our sponsors during the past rugby season. Those attending included:

Club sponsor Keith Inch representing City Park Technologies
Dougie Johnstone and friends representing Johnstone's Agri Services
Andrew Craig from the Montgomerie Arms
Willie Donaldson, Martin Flaherty and David Bennett representing Hi Lite Electricals
Michael and Les Reekie from Thermocool
Peter Hagerty from Gas Services Direct
John Hagerty from Abacus Signs
Dean Marriott from DM Autos Ltd

While unable to attend on the day, we also very much appreciate the support of:

Colin Prow from DIY Garage
Gordon Stewart from GDS Builders
Happy Valley Nursery
ABC Cleaning
KPP

Peter Ferrie had the assembled company rolling in the aisles as he thanked sponsors for their contributions (a wag said that they actually all fell asleep and gradually fell of their chairs, but don’t tell Peter). The key point is that we REALLY DO appreciate their support and trust that they had a good day.

Past Player get together

There also was a good turnout from past players as well, representing all forty six years that the club has been in existence.

We had some nine past Presidents (if we include the current one - Peter Ferrie) and eight former 1st XV Captains.

Another five former 1st XV captains were otherwise engaged, but at least they had a good excuse: they were helping Saturday’s team prepare for their match! And EK won, beating Dalziel 22-8 to earn five league points with a four try bonus.

A few are worthy of mention (by their respective approximate decade of first appearance – apologies for any errors!!):

1960’s (1968+): Bill Jefferies (past Captain, 1970-71); John Spencer (past Captain, 1975-76); Jim Blackwood (Past President 1994-96); George Craib (just past it!); Stuart Marshall; Ian Lonsdale (past Secretary); Kenny MacDonald (one of the 1968 originals)

1970’s:John Bell; Malcolm MacDonald; Harry McInally; Keith Inch (Past Captain 1981/82); Lenny Bartwicki (Past President 2011-13); Geoff and Charlie Leleux; Iain Sleigh; David McCue; Tom Keir (Past President 1996-98 and past Captain for 8 years ); John Greenfield; Bobby Dalgleish (Past President 1998-2001); Peter Ferrie (President 2013-15); Alasdair Offin (Past President 1992-94); Alan Docharty; Ray Bulloch; Mike Ellison; Frank Glen; Peter Hagerty; Jackson Kerr; Colin McGee; Ian Valentine.

1980’s: Bob Guthrie (Past Captain 1989/90 & 1996/97); Craig Steven (Past Captain 1993-95); Alex Gilmour (Past President 2006-08); Andy Kean (Past President 1988-90); Ian Norrie (Past President 1990-92); Alan Grieve; Billy Little; Neil Mossman;

1990’s: Andy MacDonald (Past Captain 2002/3); David Boag (Past Captain 2000-1);

It was a cracking afternoon so we probably need to do one again soonish as practice for our 50th Anniversary celebrations which kick off in the 2018/19 season!

Our thanks are also due to Christine Stevenson and her team for putting on a superb lunch.

A selection of photographs from the day are available here
