P5 win Strathendrick Rugby Festival

john martin26 Apr 2011 - 20:18

East Kilbride P5s were the only age group to make the journey to Fintry for the Annual Strathendrick Rugby Festival.

In the prelimary group they were matched against Allan Glens who were whitewashed 9-0. Their second opponents were Falkirk who were again outclassed losing to East Kilbride 7-1.
This qualified the EK boys for the Final which was a round robin tournament with hosts Strathendrick and old foes West of Scotland.
The first tie was a close contest with WoS just edging past Strathendrick 5-3.

East kilbride were next up against WoS and the EK boys knew they would have to be at their best, in the last two seasons games between these two sides is usually only decided by the closest of margins. East Kilbride probaly tackled better than they have all season, and a lot of work on the training pitch in recent weeks on rucking and mauling certainly paid dividends. Added to natural speed when the ball is in hand
WoS have probaly never had a harder game, East Kilbride winning 7-4.

East Kilbride then knew that the trophy would be theirs with a positive result against the hosts. This was yet another bruising physical match, but East Kilbride had just too much flair and triumphed 4-3. Well done to
