New EKRFC Coach – Alan Steel
As many of you will be aware, Jason Currie took the difficult decision to stand down as EKRFC coach following a work promotion which meant that he could not guarantee to be around the Club as often as a coach needs to be. This prompted a search for a new coach……….and……..
Our new coach is a familiar face – Allan Steel, a former flanker. Allan was very keen to take on the role when the vacancy arose, and will be supported by a range of former experienced players while he grows in to his new role.
President Lenny Bartwicki said “I am delighted that Allan accepted the job. Allan was a ferocious player before he sadly had to give the game up due to injury, and I am sure he will be working hard on developing the players’ competitive spirit as well as their skill levels”.
While Jason Currie generously agreed to oversee pre-season training, player attendance at training has been rather disappointing. Alan and Lenny hope that news of Allan’s appointment will generate a stronger attendance at training (players to be changed and ready to go at 7 pm Tues and Thurs).
Lenny also took the opportunity to thank Jason for his contribution last year as Head Coach. It was a bit of a roller coaster ride but the 1st XV did grow as the season developed. The good news is that Jason will be one of the experienced players who will be helping Allan this year, and (is this really good news, asks the Editor??) also resuming his playing career!
Further good news is that Steely will have to pay his membership. Moffy will be pleased!!
We wish Allan every success in his new role.
